How to choose industrial anti-mold agents? It is the most common question from procurement managers and factory owners – products labeled “anti-mold agent” range from a few to over a hundred RMB per kilogram, yet results differ dramatically. The wrong choice means mold returning within months, or a whole export container rejected. This article provides a practical selection method across ingredients, materials, process, testing and supplier.

1. Check Ingredients First: Broad-Spectrum vs Single-Purpose

The active ingredient is the core. Three main categories suit different scenarios:

2. Match the Material: One Agent Does Not Fit All

  • Leather/textiles: penetrating water-based agents (iHeir-PF, iHeir-BJ), immersion or spray, processing below 60°C;
  • Plastics/rubber: must use heat-resistant types (iHeir-907 organic zinc, 280°C), added during compounding;
  • Glue/coatings: in-can preservatives (iHeir-JS), added during production; pH range must match the system;
  • Bamboo/wood: soaking types (iHeir-MA), 15-30 minute immersion for fiber penetration.

Simple test: ask the supplier “what temperature? what dosage? what pH range?” – suppliers who answer these three numbers clearly understand their product.

3. Match the Process: Spray, Soak or Additive

  • Spray: for finished surfaces, low cost, shorter durability (3-6 months), good for fast shipment;
  • Soak: for raw materials, deep penetration, long durability (6-12 months), ideal for export bamboo/wood/leather;
  • Compounding: for plastics/glue production, inhibits at source – cannot be reworked, always test samples first.

4. Check Test Reports: Not Just “99% Rate”

A qualified agent should have third-party reports. Focus on:

  • Test strains: should include Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium (per GB/T 1741 or ASTM G21);
  • Test conditions: temperature (28±2°C), humidity (≥90%RH), culture period (28 days);
  • Conclusion wording: the report should state “mold resistance grade 0” or “no mold growth”, not vague “effective”.

Why not rely on antibacterial rate alone? Antibacterial (bacteria) and anti-mold (fungi) mechanisms differ – 99% antibacterial does not mean anti-mold works. This is the most common procurement trap.

5. Check the Supplier: Four Questions

  1. Do they own a factory/laboratory (verifiable on site or by video)?
  2. Can they provide case studies from your industry (with specific process details)?
  3. Do they offer free samples plus usage guidance (dosage, process parameters)?
  4. Is technical support response guaranteed (typically within 24 hours)?
