Leather & Footwear Mold Prevention

Leather contains proteins and fats, and footwear combines leather, textiles, adhesives and foam — a perfect breeding ground for mold when moisture or shipping condensation appears. Mold damage leads to returns, claims and lost brand trust. iHeir provides a complete anti-mold program from raw hides to export containers.

Where Mold Strikes

  • Raw hides and semi-finished leather: high moisture after tanning and poor storage ventilation cause white and black mold spots.
  • Finished shoes and bags: adhesives, linings and fabric layers trap moisture; rainy seasons trigger outbreaks.
  • Sea freight: temperature swings cause container condensation, and packaging paper absorbs moisture before arrival.

Recommended Products

Stage Product Application
Leather surface iHeir-PF Leather Anti-Mold Agent Spray or brush at 1:10–1:20 dilution; forms a protective layer after drying
Linings, webbing, insoles iHeir-BJ Textile Mildew Inhibitor Padding or spraying for fabric parts
Packaging & containers iHeir anti-mold chips + T-1000 Desiccant Stick Place chips in each carton; hang sticks in the container
Already-molded goods iHeir-Clean Mold Spot Cleaner Remove stains first, then re-apply protection

Recommended Process

  1. Treat hides and shoe materials in batches upon arrival to reduce initial contamination.
  2. Apply anti-mold treatment to adhesives, linings and auxiliary materials during production.
  3. Add anti-mold chips to every carton and desiccant sticks to every container before shipping.
  4. Run a 7–15 day high-temperature/high-humidity simulation test on samples before dispatch.

FAQ

Will the treatment affect leather color or feel? Use water-based, colorless formulations and verify on a small sample first; treated leather keeps its original appearance and softness.

How many desiccant sticks do we need per container? As a guide, 8–12 sticks for a 20-ft container depending on cargo and season.
